The Australian Domain Authority AUDA now has a brand-new direct domain name extension called .AU Domain Name Extensions. Any company, group, or person with ties to Australia will be able to register a .AU domain extension, such as www.mybusiness.au.

For the past six months, a grandfather clause has been in place. This implies that anyone who owns the.com.au has priorityto buy the .AU. If you own the .com.au but someone else owns the .net.au, you must both come to an agreement as to who will be able to purchase the .AU. If no agreement is made, no one will be able to purchase the .AU extension.
